WEEKEND SPORTS RUNDOWN

Strike is the operative word this weekend as the National Football League’s “strikeball” commences while balls and strikes are being tossed in baseball’s tight pennant race.

Because several of the pro football union’s big-name players such as Danny White and Joe Montana crossed the picket lines during the week, NFL fans can expect to see at least some familiar faces--or should we say numbers?--on the field Sunday.

With the Los Angeles Rams on the road in New Orleans, CBS plans to carry the Rams-Saints game from the Superdome Sunday at 10 a.m. (2)(8).

In a change from TV Times listings, KNBC-TV has the Miami Dolphins-Seattle Seahawks game Sunday at 1 p.m. (4).

In baseball, the American League East divisional title will be up for grabs as the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays meet at Tiger Stadium. NBC will televise today’s game starting at 11:15 a.m. (4)(36)(39).

If the Tigers are still in the race after today, ABC will air their final game with the Blue Jays Sunday at noon (7)(3)(10)(42).

Closer to home in college football, UCLA and Stanford will clash today at 12:30 p.m. (7)(3)(10)(42). Prime Ticket cable offers a replay of that match-up Sunday at 5 p.m.

Today’s other top college game pits Miami against Florida State at 11:30 a.m. (2)(8).
