Pitcher Nolan Ryan of the Houston Astros...
Pitcher Nolan Ryan of the Houston Astros has been asked to waive his right to reject a trade as a condition to being signed to another year, but has refused, the Houston Post reported.
The Astros have until Nov. 1 to renew the option year in Ryan’s contract or allow him to become a free agent.
John McMullen, the Astros’ chairman of the board, asked Ryan if he would agree to give the club the right to trade him, the newspaper said. Under terms of baseball’s Basic Agreement, any 10-year veteran who has played the previous five seasons with the same club can reject a trade.
“I’m not going to agree to it,” Ryan said. “I’d rather be a free agent so I could choose the club I’d want to go to.”
