Playing in the rain Thursday night didn’t seem to bother Joaquin Garcia. The Anaheim High School running back rushed for three touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt 69 yards for another touchdown to lead the Colonists to a 33-13 Orange League victory over Magnolia in Glover Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter played in a steady drizzle, Garcia, who had 115 yards in 15 carries, opened the second quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run. Less than a minute later, after a Magnolia fumble, Garcia ran eight yards for another touchdown to give Anaheim (6-1, 2-0) a 14-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, Garcia caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Robert Aldaz. He added a two-yard touchdown run and the punt return in the third quarter.

Both teams had trouble holding on to the ball. Magnolia (0-7, 0-2) fumbled eight times, losing the ball four times. Two of those turnovers led directly to Anaheim touchdowns. The Colonists lost two of seven fumbles.

Magnolia scored in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard pass from Jody Clark to Bob Musgrave. Clark, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 160 yards, also engineered the Sentinels’ other score, guiding the team 89 yards in 11 plays. He completed 4 of 5 passes for 69 yards on the drive before Dave Rondou scored on a one-yard run late in the game.
