ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : South Coast League : Capistrano Valley Beats Dana Hills, 35-14

Todd Marinovich threw for 227 yards to lead Capistrano Valley High School to a 35-14 victory over Dana Hills, its biggest win since the first week of the season, Friday at Dana Hills.

Marinovich completed 15 of 22 passes for 2 touchdowns. The Cougars are top-ranked in both Orange County and the Southern Conference. Dana Hills, ranked 10th in the Southern Conference, fell to 5-2 and 1-1.

Capistrano Valley (7-0, 2-0) scored on three of its first four possessions to take a 21-0 lead at halftime. The Cougars opened the game with an 80-yard scoring drive and also scored on drives of 91 and 62 yards in the first half.

Matt Spence capped the opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Tommy Adams, Capistrano Valley’s leading rusher with 74 yards in 10 carries, added a seven-yard scoring burst to give the Cougars a 14-0 lead with 11:39 remaining in the first half.

Marinovich hit Rich Thomas on a 16-yard post-pattern play for a touchdown with 2:51 remaining in the first half.

Jason Burden of Dana Hills ran for a 37-yard touchdown at the 6:52 mark of the third period. The Cougars put the game away with an eight-play, 80-yard drive. Adams caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Marinovich with 3:45 remaining in the third quarter to give Capistrano Valley a 28-7 lead.
