Chitty’s Three Field Goals Lift BYU Over Hawaii
Senior Leonard Chitty kicked three field goals, two in the second half, as Brigham Young University rallied to a 16-14 Western Athletic Conference victory over Hawaii late Saturday.
Hawaii (4-3, 2-2) fumbled the ball on each of its first two possessions of the second half, and BYU (4-3, 2-1) capitalized on the mistakes as Chitty converted from 26 and 38 yards.
BYU quarterback Bob Jensen was intercepted three times in the first half, including once in the end zone with 2:42 left in the half. Going into the game, Jensen was ranked fifth in the nation in total offense--averaging 278 yards a game--but Hawaii held him to 39 yards rushing and 143 yards passing.
