A Bulgarian athlete competing in the Women’s World Weightlifting Championship at Daytona Beach, Fla., defected to the United States, a newspaper reported.
Gabriela Dimitrova slipped away from her teammates Saturday, a day after tying for first place in the 132-pound weight division with a 165-pound snatch-lift at the Ocean Center, the Daytona Beach (Fla.) News-Journal said.
