Snider Resting After Heart Bypass Surgery

Duke Snider, former Dodger outfielder and a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame, is recovering from heart bypass surgery at an area hospital, the club announced Monday.

Snider, a member of the Dodgers from 1947 to 1962, was working as an announcer for the Montreal Expos. He also played with the New York Mets in 1963 and with the San Francisco Giants in 1964.

His career batting average was .295. He hit 407 home runs and had 1,333 runs batted in.

The operation was performed Saturday, and the 61-year-old is expected to recuperate at the hospital until this Saturday. Snider’s family requested the hospital’s name not be disclosed.

“He is resting comfortably and will undergo several weeks of therapy,” a spokesman said.
