Flores Won’t Talk About His Quarterbacks

It’s getting to be a weekly problem for Raider Coach Tom Flores: how to say something about his quarterback without saying anything.

After replacing starter Rusty Hilger with Marc Wilson for the third time in Hilger’s five games Sunday at Minnesota, Flores said Monday: “I’m not going to comment about the quarterback situation or any position this early in the week, until we’ve had time to evaluate.”

But Flores realizes that whenever he doesn’t give Hilger a vote of confidence, there will be speculation about a change.

“You guys are hung up on this,” he told reporters before practice. “I just don’t know right now.

“It’s a long flight home, and when you’re short of sleep isn’t a good time to evaluate these things.

“This whole situation is very frustrating for all of us. This is a very unusual situation because we’ve lost five games in a row. We’re fighting for our lives.

“You can put a lot of blame on the quarterback, but I wouldn’t blame the quarterback for everything that’s gone wrong.”
