The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. and the Big Ten cleared Iowa running back Kevin Harmon of any wrongdoing in allegations of payments made to Harmon by sports agents Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom, Iowa Athletic Director C.W. (Bump) Elliott said.
Elliott’s statement said: “I am very pleased to report today that Wayne Duke of the Big Ten and Steve Horton of the NCAA . . . have confirmed to me that they see no violation of Big Ten or NCAA rules or regulations by Kevin Harmon, and see no problem that would jeopardize his eligibility for athletics at the University of Iowa.”
An investigation was conducted by Iowa last week after a report by federal arbitrator John C. Culver said that Harmon might have received $350 and airline tickets from World Sports and Entertainment, Walter and Bloom’s sports-management firm.
