San Pasqual 6, San Marcos 0--The combination of Chris Nottoli’s two field goals and the play of the defense gave San Pasqual (5-5, 5-2) the league title after Oceanside lost to Escondido. Nottoli kicked a 31-yard field goal with 24 seconds left in the first half and a 39-yarder with 9:03 left in the game. San Marcos (4-4-2, 4-3) had two chances to score in the fourth quarter, but turnovers deep in San Pasqual territory ruined those opportunities. San Marcos’ Travis Beasly recovered a fumble and returned it 70 yards to the San Pasqual 6, but quarterback Rick Ebert fumbled while trying to hand the ball off on the next play. With three minutes to play, Beasly fumbled at the San Pasqual 2 after catching a pass from Ebert.

Escondido 13, Oceanside 12--Oceanside’s Jerry Garrett completed a two-point conversion pass to Terry Vaughn with six seconds to play, but the play was wiped out on an offensive pass interference call and Escondido (3-7, 3-4) held on to knock Oceanside (4-4-2, 4-2-1) out of first place. Escondido took a 13-0 halftime lead on a pair of touchdown runs by Mason Stevenson in the second quarter. Oceanside pulled within 13-6 in the third quarter on a seven-yard run by Kenny Acuso. With six seconds left in the fourth quarter, Garrett completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Vaughn to make it 13-12.

El Camino 14, Ramona 3--When El Camino’s Eric Robinson was unable to move the team from his quarterback spot in the first half, he moved to tailback and had a hand in two second-half touchdowns at El Camino (5-5, 4-3). Robinson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Terry Isles in the third quarter from his tailback spot to give El Camino a 7-3 lead. He scored on a 13-yard run with 2:32 left in the game for the final score. Robinson had 92 yards rushing in 10 carries. El Camino held Ramona (3-7, 2-5) to 74 yards offense. Ramona scored on the game’s fifth play when Jason Waite kicked a 34-yard field goal.

Lincoln 42, San Diego 13--The big news for Lincoln (8-2, 5-0) was clinching the league title. But San Diego (1-9, 1-4) was just glad the game was close . . . at least for a while. On a fake punt, San Diego’s Jimmy Kegler scored on a 72-yard screen pass playfrom Brian Baird to narrow a Lincoln lead to 20-7 at halftime. On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Kegler made the score 20-13 when he scored on a 76-yard run. But San Diego did not get any closer. Darren Wagner scored two of his three touchdowns in the second half on runs of seven and five yards. Wagner also scored in the first half on a nine-yard run. Alonzo Edwards scored on a seven-yard run in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Christian 15, Crawford 7--Visiting Christian, behind Robert Murphy’s two touchdowns, finished second with the victory. Murphy, who had 31 yards in 10 carries, recover a fumble and ran 40 yards for the score in the second quarter to tie the game, 7-7, after pulling the ball from the arms of Crawford’s Peter Barela. In the third quarter, Murphy scored on a three-yard run to put Christian (6-4, 4-1) ahead 13-7 and Kevin Lord caught a pass from David Beezer for the two-point conversion. Crawford quarterback Keith Gilbert threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Wayne Hosaka to put Crawford (6-4, 3-2) ahead 7-0 in the first quarter.

Hoover 14, St. Augustine 0--Hoover running back Joe Odom has been bothered by a sprained ankle the past three games, but still managed to rush for 122 yards in 14 carries, including a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Jerome Gross scored on a 23-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for Hoover (3-7, 2-3). Visiting St. Augustine (3-7, 0-5) suffered seven turnovers.

CITY EASTERN

Patrick Henry 26, Serra 0--Quarterback Lance Lowery passed 46 yards for one touchdown and ran 1 yard for another to lead Patrick Henry (4-5, 3-2) at Serra. Wide receiver Collis Hunt had the 46-yard touchdown reception in the first period. Patrick Henry was aided by five Serra turnovers. Serra finished 1-9 and 0-5.

Mira Mesa 15, Madison 12--Ricky Hanson scored on a five-yard run and quarterback Jimmy Murray scored on a 20-yard run for Mira Mesa (6-4, 2-3). Mira Mesa’s John Martin intercepted three passes from Madison quarterback Brad Eaddy. Madison finished at 2-7-1, 1-3. Mira Mesa may have a chance for an at-large playoff berth.

CITY WESTERN

La Jolla 40, Clairemont 7--Brent Woodall rushed for two touchdowns and caught a pass for another as La Jolla (9-1, 5-0) beat Clairemont (4-5-1, 1-3-1) at Madison High. Woodall scored on runs of 3 and 85 yards and caught a 68-yard scoring pass from John Tribolet. Tribolet was 7 of 11 for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns. Woodall finished with 168 yards rushing on 12 carries and also had 81 yards in receiving. La Jolla had clinched its second consecutive league championship last week.

USDHS 16, Mission Bay 14--Duke Gonzalez kicked a 28-yard field goal with 1:53 left in the game at the University of San Diego as USDHS (9-1, 4-1) assured itself of a playoff spot. Gonzalez produced the only second-half points. Tony Moeder scored both touchdowns for USDHS on runs of one and nine yards. USDHS quarterback Anthony Massa completed 5 of 13 pass attempts for 48 yards and had three passes intercepted. Mission Bay quarterback Brian Miranda completed 9 of 15 pass attempts for 109 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jason Hamm that gave Mission Bay (2-8, 1-4) a 14-13 lead. Charles Saviinaea scored on a eight-yard run for Mission Bay.

GROSSMONT 2-A

Grossmont 21, Valhalla 0--Mark Stillwell threw a pair of touchdown passes to Zack Kinsfather to lead Grossmont (3-5-2, 1-1-1) past host Valhalla (2-7, 1-2), which could have won the league championship with a victory. Grossmont’s win gave the title to El Capitan.

METRO-MESA

Sweetwater 15, Bonita Vista 9--Sweetwater cornerback Paul Samson intercepted a pass by Bonita Vista quarterback David Baumgarten late in the fourth period to end a Bonita Vista scoring drive and give Sweetwater the victory and the league title. It was Samson’s second interception of the game. Pierre Jones rushed for 80 yards in 20 carries and a 5-yard touchdown to pace Sweetwater (8-2, 4-0). Bonita Vista took a 9-7 lead in the second period when Baumgarten threw a six-yard scoring pass to Gary Talavera. Earlier in the quarter, Bonita Vista (4-5-1, 2-2) sacked Sweetwater quarterback Art Saenz for a safety. Saenz hit Scott Catlin with a 16-yard scoring strike for the winning touchdown with 8:01 left to play.

Chula Vista 28, Montgomery 7--Paul Geering threw touchdown passes in each of the first three quarters as Chula Vista rallied from an early deficit to defeat host Montgomery and clinch second place and playoff berth. Geering completed touchdown passes of 12 yards to Steve Trainor, 4 yards to Jeff Doe and 23 yards to Shawn Miranda. Geering completed 14 of 27 passes for 162 yards. Marquis Howard, who carried 17 times for 110 yards, scored the other touchdown on a 4-yard run in the third period. Montgomery (4-6, 1-3) scored first on a 32-yard pass play to Caesar Perez from Allan Lee, but Chula Vista (6-1-3, 3-1) took the lead for good on Doe’s touchdown late in the second quarter.

METRO-SOUTH BAY

Castle Park 42, Hilltop 14--David Carpenter rushed for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns on 15 carries to lead Castle Park (2-5-2) to the win. Hilltop (2-7, 2-2) and Coronado (7-3, 2-2) are tied with Castle Park for second place. Carpenter scored on runs of 2, 2 and 35 yards. Castle Park’s Brian Baine threw a 55-yard scoring pass to Kiyoshi Moody in the second half.

Coronado 6, Marian 0--Mike Shore scored on a 6-yard run in the third period to lead Coronado (7-3, 2-2), which will represent the league in the playoffs as the second-place team. Coronado won a coin toss between the three teams tied for second place in the league. Hilltop, Coronado and Castle Park were tied for second place with 2-2 league records.

PALOMAR

San Dieguito 16, Vista 7--Gene McCarthy kicked an 18-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter for the go-ahead points as San Dieguito (6-4, 2-4) defeated visiting Vista (6-4, 3-3). Marc Jones scored on a 21-yard run to give Vista a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. San Dieguito pulled within 7-6 on Bobby Davis’ one-yard scoring run in the second quarter. After McCarthy’s field goal, Jim Robbins picked up a fumble and ran 23 yards to the Vista three-yard line to set up another one-yard run by Davis for San Dieguito’s final score. Both teams will be hoping for wild card playoff berths.

NONLEAGUE

Torrey Pines 21, El Capitan 14--John Lynch threw touchdown passes of 51 and 35 yards to give Torrey Pines (5-4-1) the victory.
