Eget Leaves Northridge Basketball Team
Barry Eget, a freshman guard from Crescenta Valley High, said he has left the Cal State Northridge basketball team. Eget (6-foot), who led the Southern Section 4-A Division in scoring last season with a 25.7 average, indicated he left because of a disagreement with Coach Pete Cassidy.
“I wanted to redshirt and they didn’t want me to,” Eget said. “They said I was going to play but I didn’t see it. I didn’t want to play a minute a game and lose the year of eligibility over it.”
Eget said he would finish this semester at CSUN and transfer to a local junior college.
Cassidy, who has not spoken with Eget since the player decided to quit, said they had discussed redshirting but added, “the decision to redshirt is not a player’s decision. It is a coach’s decision or a decision reached by mutual agreement.”
Cassidy denied that Eget would be limited to a minute of playing time per game.
“Playing a minute a game would be wasting a year of eligibility,” he said. “That’s just not my way. I would not do that to any player.”
