Fire, Smoke Damage 3 Classrooms in Escondido
One classroom was burned and two others were damaged by smoke late Friday night when a malfunctioning heating element caused a fire at Juniper Elementary School in Escondido.
A spokesman for the Escondido Fire Department said the 11:43 p.m. fire was brought quickly under control and caused no injuries. He said smoke detectors were set off but were not monitored by an alarm company during non-school hours.
