POP LP CHART

Madonna’s “You Can Dance,” a collection of dance mixes of some of her old hits, shot up to No. 34 in just two weeks on the Billboard magazine pop chart. Dokken’s red-hot “Back For the Attack” (No. 17) is a good bet to make the Top 10. Two veteran bands that many had considered has-beens--Earth, Wind and Fire and Jethro Tull--have confounded their critics by cracking the Top 40. Tull’s “Crest of a Knave” is No. 32 while Earth, Wind and Fires’s “Touch the World” is No. 37. Pop singles: George Michael’s “Faith” took over the top spot of the pop chart; Tiffany’s proving that she’s not a one-hit wonder with the fast-rising “Could’ve Been” (No. 38). Bruce Springsteen’s new single, “Tunnel of Love,” is No. 47.

* Stevie Wonder’s new album, “Characters,” is off to a great start--No. 21 after two weeks--even though his single, “Skeletons,” didn’t do quite as well as expected. “Skeletons,” which seemed Top-10-bound, peaked at No. 19.
