Tropical Holiday, the favorite ridden by Angel Cordero, passed fading pacesetter Sovereign Miss early in the stretch, then held off a late bid by Fair Country to win Thursday’s $40,000 feature race at Hollywood Park.
Tropical Holiday finished a half-length in front of Fair Country in the one-mile race for fillies and mares.
Time For Hart was third, another neck back, in the race before a crowd of 12,055.
Sovereign Miss slipped back to fifth, behind Gibberish.
Tropical Holiday carried 120 pounds and was timed in 1:35 4/5.
The winner paid $4.80, $3.40 and $3. Fair Country, ridden by Aaron Gryder, returned $6.80 and $3.80. Time For Hart, with Fernando Toro, returned $2.40.
Fair Country was in good position all the way but could not keep up with Tropical Holiday in the final furlong. Time For Hart, far back in the nine-horse field in the early going, rallied strongly but also was unable to catch the winner.
