The Atlanta Braves will offer free agent Bob Horner a one-year contract worth $900,000 during major league baseball’s winter meetings next week in Dallas, according to a published report.

The Atlanta Constitution reported in today’s editions that General Manager Bobby Cox would make an offer to Horner and his agent, Bucky Woy, that would include incentives and a provision for weight checks, possibly on a daily basis.

Horner weighed 234 pounds after his last game with the Braves in 1986. His previous Brave contract included a clause stipulating he keep his weight at 215 pounds or lose a portion of a $100,000 bonus.

Horner rejected the Braves’ offer of a three-year, $4.5-million contract last January and played last season in Japan.
