Crawford Defeats Hilltop in Opener, 75-61

Lamont Grove scored 27 points and Tracy Halton added 16 to lead visiting Crawford High School past Hilltop, 75-61, in the basketball season opener for both teams Thursday night.
Chris Johnson added 15 points for Crawford, which led, 37-31, at halftime and extended its lead to 57-43 after three quarters. Mark Dirksen led Hilltop with 29 points.
In other nonleague games:
Fallbrook 52, Mission Bay 51--Scott West scored 21 points to lead Fallbrook in the season opener for both teams. The game was close throughout. Fallbrook led, 26-25, at the half. Steve Grebing led Mission Bay with 13 points.
St. Augustine 59, Serra 54--Doug Carter’s 17 points led St. Augustine. The Saints (2-0) outscored Serra, 22-10, in the second period. Serra is 1-1.
