San Fernando 16, Dorsey 12--Joe Mauldin scored the winning touchdown on a 24-yard quarterback draw with 1:19 to play in the Tigers’ come-from-behind win in a first-round 4-A game.

“I saw it just open up and I took what I had,” said Mauldin, who ran for 63 yards and passed for 121.

Dorsey, however, came back, driving to the San Fernando 17-yard line before Roman Foster was tackled at the eight on the game’s final play.

“We told our players, somehow, some way we had to come through, and we did,” San Fernando Coach Tom Hernandez said.

Dorsey took a 12-7 lead when defensive lineman Donnie Brown recovered a fumble by Mauldin and ran untouched for a 25-yard touchdown with 9:24 left in the third period. The Tigers drew closer when they tackled Dorsey punter Sharrief Shah in the end zone for a safety with 3:21 left in the game.

San Fernando then took the ensuing free kick on its own 49 and drove 27 yards to set up Mauldin’s run.
