Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Esperanza Makes It Past Canyon, 54-46

Karin Davidson scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Esperanza High School to a 54-46 victory over Canyon Tuesday in the first round of the Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball tournament.

Jennifer Harney scored 10 points and teammate Kelli Dillion had 8 rebounds and 4 points for Esperanza (2-1), which plays Foothill at 7:30 tonight in one quarterfinal.

In other Brea-Olinda Tournament games:

Foothill 71, Paramount 13--Amy Steinle scored 15 points for Foothill, which advanced to a quarterfinal game against Esperanza at 4:30 p.m.

Ashley Selman had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists and teammate Edie Mitchell had 10 points for Foothill. Foothill led, 32-8, at halftime and, 55-10, at the end of three quarters.

In nonleague games:

Laguna Hills 57, Pacifica 46--Christy Grebel had a game-high 34 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Hawks at Laguna Hills. Grebel, a senior post player, was 15 of 29 from the field and 4 of 8 from the free throw line for the Hawks (1-2). Jani Ditto had 14 points to lead Pacifica (0-3).

Orange Lutheran 55, Liberty Christian 48--Pam Marty had 14 points and Devon Koster added 7 blocked shots for host Orange Lutheran (2-1). Sharon Crouch led Liberty Christian (2-1) with 18 points.

Saddleback 62, Santa Ana 49--Monica Walton scored 18 and Melody Mayfield 12 for Saddleback (5-0) at home. Mona Martinez scored 14 for Santa Ana (0-2).

Marina 67, Capistrano Valley 57--Liberty Brewster scored 16 points and had 7 rebounds and 6 assists for Marina (3-0) at home. Dee Dee Strigar scored 16 and Dawn Charroin 13 for Marina.

University 42, Dana Hills 11--Shelley Davis had 11 points, 9 in the third quarter, to lead University at Dana Hills. Sandy Johnson assisted on all four of Davis’ baskets in the quarter. University is 1-2 and Dana Hills 0-3.

Magnolia 48, Sunny Hills 24--Dawne Borum scored 28 points and had 17 rebounds to lead Magnolia at Sunny Hills. Borum, a forward, was 10 of 22 from the field. Rena Rossoll had 10 points and 7 rebounds for Magnolia (3-2).
