Opinions Vary on Heisman Voting

Notre Dame’s Tim Brown rightfully won the Heisman Trophy on the basis of a season’s performance against what the NCAA determined to be the most difficult schedule in the country. Brown’s very presence on the field created a unique situation, the like of which I’ve not seen in my five decades of watching college football. Here is a player who actually forced rival coaches to alter their defensive strategies because he was on the field.
I’ve seen all six previous Notre Dame Heisman winners. All were great players, but not a one forced such defensive realignments. Notwithstanding a shoulder separation late in the season, he was still out there giving his best and is a most worthy winner of this ultimate award.
