Chris Mullin, suspended by Golden State for missing a practice last Thursday, has entered an alcohol rehabilitation program, the team announced Saturday.

Mullin “came forward today to seek help for an alcohol problem,” a team spokesman said. “He has admitted to excessive consumption of beer over a period of time. He is now in the care of professional counselors at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood. He will return to the Warriors at the conclusion of his treatment program, which will be determined by Dr. Jerry Rozanski.”

The alcohol rehabilitation program is not related to the National Basketball Assn. Drug Program, the spokesman said.

Mullin was suspended for the Warriors’ game with Atlanta Friday night for failing to show up for practice Thursday morning in Oakland, after calling to say he would be late, then calling to say he wouldn’t be there for “personal reasons.”
