San Diego
A San Diego woman died in a fire Monday after attempting to light the gas stove in her Southeast San Diego home, the San Diego Fire Department reported.
Firefighters discovered the burning body of Mary Frances Hamilton, 57, in front of her stove shortly after 3:38 p.m. at her North Evans Street home, a Fire Department spokesman said.
About 25 firefighters fought the blaze, which destroyed Hamilton’s single-family home, causing $40,000 in damage to the wood-frame structure.
