Share

Santa Ana High School’s girls’ basketball team, trailing after the first quarter, switched defenses and its fortunes and went on to a 53-37 victory at Laguna Hills Thurday in a nonleague game.

Laguna Hills took a 17-12 first-quarter lead against the Saints’ man-to-man defense.

But Santa Ana switched to a zone in the second quarter and outscored Laguna Hills, 16-5, to take the lead for good, 28-22, at halftime.

“The zone seemed to open up a lot of things for us,” said Coach Jeff Watts of his team’s first victory. “A lot of those points came off turnovers and steals.”
