Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers, who set two NFL records for touchdown catches despite playing in only 12 games of this strike-shortened season, was named as the league’s offensive player of the year by the Associated Press. The news service named defensive end Reggie White of the Philadelphia Eagles defensive player of the year.
