High School Winter Sports : Harvard Rides Big Quarter to 102-62 Victory

Charles Patton and Rick Osterloh each scored eight points in a 32-point second-quarter uprising as Harvard defeated LaSalle, 102-62, in a Santa Fe League basketball game at Harvard.

Patton and Osterloh each finished with 14 points.

Harvard, which made 39 of 60 field-goal attempts, utilized full-court pressure that resulted in numerous fast-break points. The Saracens are 3-5 overall, 1-1 in league play.

Alemany 74, St. Francis 69--Tony Lopez scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half as Alemany improved to 2-0 in the Del Rey League. David Berganio also scored 19 for the Indians.

Chaminade 71, Salesian 68--With the score tied, 68-68, Chaminade’s Chris Bruckner picked up a loose ball with four seconds left and hit a 25-footer from the top of the key to give the Eagles (7-4, 2-0) a Santa Fe League win at Salesian.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Campbell Hall 41, Faith Baptist 38--Jeanelle Meskinen’s two free throws sealed the win for Campbell Hall.

Margaret Archer led Campbell Hall (5-3, 1-0) with a game-high 15 points.

BOYS SOCCER

Royal 1, Westlake 0--Senior Luis Gutierrez scored early in the first half on an assist from Edwin Zela to give Royal the Marmonte League victory at Westlake.

Arcadia 1, Burroughs 0--David Bridgeman scored on a penalty kick to give visiting Arcadia the win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Royal 8, Westlake 0--Sophomore Nikki Noyes scored three goals for Royal in a Marmonte League opener at Royal. Senior Barbie Yribe scored a goal and had two assists for Royal (8-0-1, 1-0).

Chaminade 4, Notre Dame 1--Carla Coppa scored two goals and Kathy Regan and Carroll Bentley each added one as Chaminade won the Sunshine League game at Chaminade Junior High.

Alemany 1, Arcadia 1--Alemany, the 1987 Southern Section 3-A Division runner-up, battled Arcadia, a 1987 semifinalist, to a tie in the Pacific League opener at Civic Center Park in Arcadia.

WRESTLING

Harvard 39, Crespi 30--Harvard improved to 3-0 in the nonleague match at Harvard. John Lee (134 pounds), Kevin Newman (177) and Tony Choy (140) registered pins for the Saracens.

El Camino Real 55, Chatsworth 12--Seven Conquistadores pinned their opponents as host El Camino Real boosted its record to 25-2.
