San Clemente Reaches State Surfing Semifinals

Share

Top-seeded San Clemente High School will meet Dana Hills in today’s semifinals of the California Interscholastic Surfing Federation state championships at Oceanside.

Dana Hills defeated Ocean View, 59-36, Saturday on the first day of competition. San Clemente advanced by drawing a bye, because second-seeded Huntington Beach did not compete.

Huntington Beach Athletic Director Dave VanHoorebeke said the Oilers chose not to compete because their surfing coach, Chuck Allen, resigned before Christmas and has not yet been replaced. VanHoorebeke said Huntington Beach plans to compete in next month’s National Scholastic Surfing Assn. competition at Bolsa Chica Beach.
