Garden Grove League Basketball : Pacifica’s Bombing Beats Bolsa Grande, 68-67

Greg White, Pacifica High School guard, hit five three-point shots and teammate Dustin Bonham connected on four more Monday night, to help the Mariners to a 68-67 Garden Grove League victory over host Bolsa Grande in boys’ basketball.

Bolsa Grande (9-4, 2-1), led by Joe Small and Jim Usey who each scored 19 points, had a 53-52 lead at the end of the third quarter. The teams traded leads in the fourth quarter, and with 1:09 left, Pacifica’s Emmanuel Jarreau made the front end of a one-and-one to break a 67-67 tie.

White led Pacifica (4-6 overall, 2-1 in league) with 21 points, and Bonham had 18. The Mariners connected on 10 three-pointers.

Garden Grove 57, Rancho Alamitos 50 (OT)--Garden Grove’s Steve Sylvester hit a three-point shot with 1:03 left to tie the score, 48-48, and send the game into overtime, where the Argonauts outscored Rancho Alamitos, 9-2, at Garden Grove.

Isidro Maldonado scored 5 of his team-high 16 points in overtime for Garden Grove (2-8, 1-2). Sylvester added 15 points. Bryan Moore led Rancho Alamitos (3-7, 2-1) with 16 points.

Kennedy 63, Los Amigos 53 (OT)--The Fighting Irish (3-0, 7-5), after losing a fourth-quarter lead on turnovers, outscored Los Amigos, 10-0, in overtime at Kennedy. Michael Keith led Kennedy with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Maurice Keith and Wendell Lauderdale added 16 points each. J.J. Jenkins led Los Amigos with 14 points.

In girls’ basketball:

La Quinta 56, Santiago 23--Center Donna Gondringer led La Quinta (10-3, 3-0) with 15 points and 17 rebounds at Santiago. Teammate Laura Anderson had 10 assists. Carolyn Burns led Santiago with 11 points.

Kennedy 47, Los Amigos 38--Kennedy guard Michelle Harris, shooting 67% from the field, scored 16 points and had 8 steals to lead the Fighting Irish (2-7, 1-2). Teammate Laura Cummins added 10 points and 22 rebounds. Kennedy held Los Amigos to just two points in the third quarter.

Bolsa Grande 47, Pacifica 41--Point guard Liz Flores scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Bolsa Grande (6-5, 2-1) at home. Chris Milia added 10 points for the Matadors. Joan Maurer led Pacifica with 14 points and teammate Lani Matsuda added 10.
