Simi Valley 69, Channel Islands 55--Simi Valley trailed, 35-30, at halftime but Don MacLean and Shawn DeLaittre combined for all 23 points in the third quarter to spark the Pioneers to their 21st consecutive Marmonte League victory.

MacLean scored 12 of his game-high 31 points in the third quarter and DeLaittre added 11 of his 14 as Simi Valley made 11 of 13 field-goal attempts and outscored Channel Islands, 23-7. MacLean also finished with 12 rebounds.

Senior guard Butch Hawking had 14 assists to set the school career record with 325. Dirk Schwab, who graduated in 1978, held the record with 314.

Saugus 47, Canyon 44 (OT)--A basket from inside the key by Jason Harrison with a minute to play in overtime helped host Saugus win the Golden League game.

Canyon’s Mike Garner tied the score, 44-44, in regulation with a 14-foot jump shot at the buzzer. Canyon missed all three of its shots in overtime and was outscored, 11-2, in the third quarter.

“I was so disturbed by our play in the first half I went in and yelled at them at halftime,” Saugus Coach John Clark said. “We came out and played hard.”

Canyon clawed back in the fourth quarter as Saugus missed the front ends of five one-and-one opportunities in the period.

After scoring only four points in the first half, Vladimir Bilik of Saugus (7-11, 3-2) had 12 after intermission.

Chris Schmitt led Canyon (2-12, 1-4) with 13 points and Garner added 12.

North Hollywood 66, Van Nuys 62--Danny Klein and Dominic Nappi scored 26 and 23 points to lead the Huskies to an East Valley League victory at North Hollywood.

Nappi, who also pulled down 9 rebounds, scored 17 points in the first half as North Hollywood built a 36-25 lead. Klein scored 12 of his points in the fourth quarter when the Huskies held off a late Van Nuys rally.

North Hollywood (11-4, 4-1) was playing without swingman Alan Breslauer, who suffered a severe ankle sprain during practice Thursday. Rashe Dorsey, a transfer from Van Nuys, started in his place and scored five points.

Alonzo Galloway led Van Nuys (6-6, 3-2) with 25 points.

Notre Dame 65, St. Francis 54--Ken Hicks scored a game-high 24 points and Brian Jones and Bruce Heicke added 16 and 12 for Notre Dame in the Del Rey League game at St. Francis. Notre Dame improved to 10-7, 6-1 in league play.

Grant 60, Verdugo Hills 40--Danny Enowitz scored a game-high 19 points and Sean Watkins added 15 for Grant in the East Valley League game at Verdugo Hills. Grant, which had a 24-4 run in the second quarter, improved to 13-2, 5-0 in league play; Verdugo Hills dropped to 2-11, 0-5.

Chaminade 91, La Salle 45--Chris Bruckner, one of five Chaminade players in double figures, scored 18 points in the Santa Fe League game at Chaminade. Pete Miller added 12 points for Chaminade (11-5, 6-1).

San Fernando 80, Birmingham 59--Tory Stephens scored 25 points and Joe Mauldin added 23 for San Fernando in the Northwest Valley League game at San Fernando. Michael Wynn contributed 15 as the Tiger trio accounted for all but 17 of its team’s points. San Fernando improved to 11-4, 5-0 in league play.

Granada Hills 101, Monroe 66--Alvin Brown, who led all scorers with 30 points, pulled down 15 rebounds for Granada Hills in the Northwest Valley League game at Granada Hills. Jermoine Brantley scored 16 points, and John Johnson and Joey Rosas added 13 and 11 for the Highlanders (8-4, 4-1).

Bell-Jeff 66, Cathedral 42--Nick Sanderson scored 20 points and Henry Polee added 15 to lead the Guards to a Santa Fe League victory at Cathedral.

Cathedral entered the game undefeated in league play; Bell-Jeff had lost two of its past three. Greg Dunne added 13 points for Bell-Jeff (9-6, 5-2) and Chris Dyer had 11 points and 6 assists.

Westlake 64, Newbury Park 53--Kevin Logan scored 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for Westlake in the Marmonte League game at Westlake. Wayne Cook led the Panthers with 19 points. Bob Grandpre had eight assists for Westlake (10-8, 3-3).
