Long Beach City Upsets El Camino

Bill Fraser had incentive, but more importantly he had a plan.

The Long Beach City College basketball coach wanted to avenge his team’s 32-point loss to El Camino College earlier this month.

He did that Saturday night, with a 60-58 upset over the Warriors at Long Beach. With the scored tied, 58-58, with three seconds left, Long Beach’s Darren Rector heaved a length-of-the-court pass to Randy Wise. Wise’s shot missed, but Demetrius Camper grabbed the rebound and put it in for the Long Beach win.

El Camino, which beat Long Beach 101-69 on Jan. 6, fell to 6-2 in South Coast Conference play and 22-3 overall. The Vikings improved to 3-5 and 15-11.

Arlandis Rush and Kirkland Howling paced El Camino with 15 points each, but all of Howling’s points came in the first half.

Rush and forward Charles White were reinstated on the team after being kicked off the squad by Coach Paul Landreaux following Wednesday’s game against Pasadena City College.
