600,000 Cheer the Redskins
An estimated 600,000 people, some of whom arrived before dawn, jammed Pennsylvania Avenue and cheered themselves hoarse today as the Super Bowl Champion Washington Redskins drove by in buses surrounded by marching bands and public officials.
“I consider myself a real, real lucky person,” Redskins quarterback Doug Williams, the Most Valuable Player in the Super Bowl and the darling of today’s crowd, said from a makeshift stage in front of City Hall. Later the team went to the White House where President Reagan congratulated the players.
