Girls’ Basketball : La Quinta Clinches 7th League Title

The La Quinta High School girls’ basketball team clinched its seventh consecutive Garden Grove League title Wednesday with a 68-11 victory over Garden Grove at La Quinta.

Donna Gondringer, a senior center, scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds and point guard Laura Anderson added 12 points and 11 assists to lead La Quinta. Amy Jalewelia had 11 rebounds and Sue Paulsen 7 steals for La Quinta.

The Aztecs, who held a 40-5 halftime lead, have lost just one league game in seven seasons.

La Quinta (19-3, 12-0) is top-ranked in the Southern Section 2-A and is third-ranked in the Orange County coaches’ poll.

In other Garden Grove League games:

Kennedy 53, Pacifica 32--Guard Michelle Harris was the only player in double figures, scoring 18 points for Kennedy (9-9, 8-4).

Santiago 41, Los Amigos 34--Carolyn Burns, a senior center, and Carolyn Rodriguez each had 11 points for Santiago (14-5, 9-3). Los Amigos’ Amy Pearson had a game-high 15 points. Los Amigos is 4-7 in league.
