Hart’s Scott Intrigued by Buena Vacancy

Share

Hart High Coach Rick Scott said he would consider accepting the football coaching position at Buena, although he denies he has applied for the position or been contacted by school officials.

Mike Olgy resigned last month, creating the vacancy. Scott was mentioned as a candidate in a report in the Ventura Star-Free Press suggesting that Scott’s ties to Ventura County would draw him to Buena, a Channel League school in Ventura.

Scott played quarterback at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks and taught at Newbury Park High for 10 years. He was an assistant at Newbury Park and Moorpark College before taking the Hart job.

His Hart teams have posted a record of 41-9-2 in four years.

“I’m not totally against any offer that would improve myself and I have a Ventura connection,” Scott said Thursday. “But high school jobs are not like college. So much depends on a teaching position being available.”

Buena Principal Michael Shanahan dismissed talk of Scott moving to Buena as premature.

“We haven’t advertised the position yet and I haven’t taken any applications,” he said. “We know about his success and we’re pleased to think that he might be interested in us.”

Last year Hart reached the semifinal round of the Northwestern Conference playoffs after winning the championship in 1986. Buena was 2-8 last season.
