SDSU Receives Commitment From San Bernardino Player
San Diego State received an oral commitment Friday from Gary Taylor, a 5-foot 11-inch, 170-pound defensive back from San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino.
Taylor, who intercepted five passes and was an All-Citrus Belt League selection last season, said he also took recruiting trips to Nebraska, Oregon and Wisconsin.
The Aztecs also have received a commitment from Joe Santos, a punter from Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Contra Costa Coach Tom Kinnard said. Santos (6-0, 180 pounds) averaged 42.3 yards per punt last season and was a second-team All-Bay Valley Conference selection.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Eighth-ranked Cal State Long Beach defeated No. 7 San Diego State, 15-13, 15-9, 17-15, in a Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match at Long Beach.
Freshman Hugh Foster led the Aztecs with 18 kills.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Teri Paine scored 25 points to lead Cal State San Bernardino to a 74-67 victory over host UC San Diego. Cal State San Bernardino (18-3) led, 43-25, at halftime. Chris McCallum led UCSD (7-13) with 21 points.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Mark Warner scored 31 points and Gerald Duncan added 24 to lead visiting Cal State San Bernardino to a 94-75 victory over UC San Diego. Warner hit 13 of 15 shots for Cal State San Bernardino (17-4), which led, 45-26, at halftime. Rob Rittgers led UCSD (13-7) with 20 points, and Greg Paskwietz added 18.
