Women’s Basketball Roundup : Long Beach Coasts Past San Jose St.

The Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team, ranked 14th in the country, improved its overall record to 12-5 and raised its Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. record to 9-0 with a 82-51 victory over San Jose State Saturday night at San Jose.

Actually, the score could easily have even more one-sided. San Jose (1-20 and 0-12) lost to Nevada Las Vegas, 113-42, Thursday night. Last season, the 49ers set a National Collegiate Athletic Assn. record for points when they beat the Spartans, 149-69.

Long Beach Coach Joan Bonvicini substituted liberally in an effort to keep the score down. All 12 players scored, and no starter played more than 24 minutes. The 49ers led, 41-16, at halftime.

UCLA 77, Oregon State 60--Forward Dora Dome scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Bruins past the Beaversat Corvallis, Ore.

Sandra Van Emricqs added 18 points for UCLA (13-8, 6-3). Michelle Wootton scored 14 points off the bench.

Oregon State (8-12, 3-7) trailed by only four points at the half, 32-28, but UCLA opened the second half with a 13-4 run to take a 45-32 lead with 14:45 to play.
