Pacific 10 Roundup : Huskies Top Stanford in 2 Overtimes

Troy Morrell’s three-point play with 10 seconds left in the second overtime gave Washington an 84-82 victory over Stanford Saturday in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Seattle.

Washington (7-14 overall, 3-9 in the Pac-10) capitalized on a turnover by Stanford’s Greg Butler with 27 seconds left. Eldridge Recasner drove through the lane and fed Morrell for the winning basket.

Howard Wright, who scored 24 points for Stanford the Cardinal, sank one of two foul shots with 1:32 remaining to give Stanford (16-8, 8-5) an 82-81 lead.

Recasner scored 28 points, and Mark West hit 16 for Washington. Butler had 20, and Todd Lichti added 19 for Stanford.

Stanford’s Andrew Vlahov made a free throw after time expired in regulation to tie the score, 71-71. Lichti’s basket with one second left in the first overtime tied it again, 77-77, but the Cardinal lost for the 10th straight time in Seattle.

California 82, Washington St. 76--Roy Fisher scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Bears past the Cougars at Pullman, Wash.

Cal (8-13, 5-8) had a 55-33 lead with 11:09 left, but Washington State (10-11, 5-7) made a 16-3 run to get with three points with 1:05 left before the Bears held on by making 8 of 9 free throws.

David Sanders scored 26 points for Washington State, and Ryan Drew added 15 for Cal.

Oregon 87, Arizona State 82--Anthony Taylor scored 6 of his 27 points in overtime, and the Ducks beat the Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz.

Trailing, 74-69, Oregon (11-10, 6-6) reeled off the final five points of regulation, including a three-point shot by Steve Ranninger with 1:10 left, to tie the game, 74-74.

Tarence Wheeler of Arizona State (13-10, 6-7), who had 19 points, missed a 15-foot jumper with four seconds left, sending the game into overtime. Oregon took control by scoring the first nine points of overtime.
