Former Indianapolis driver Cal Niday of Port Hueneme died of massive internal injuries suffered Sunday in an accident at the Willow Springs track in Rosamond. He was 73.
Niday, injured during exhibition races of vintage sprint and midget cars at Willow Springs, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center in the early afternoon. He was pronounced dead about two hours later, said Vicki Helmandollar, administrative coordinator at the Lancaster hospital.
The cause of death was “multiple trauma,” she said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
