Del Rey Principals OK Realignment for Wrestling League

Share

Principals of Del Rey League high schools have approved a new wrestling league and announced that next season three rounds of league play will be conducted in baseball and tennis.

The wrestling league will include current Del Rey members Crespi and St. John Bosco. They will be joined by current Angelus League members Bishop Montgomery, St. Paul, Mater Dei and Bishop Amat. Bosco Tech also is considering joining. Alemany, a member of the Del Rey League in several sports, will remain a member of the Santa Fe League in wrestling.

The revision in baseball and tennis was made because Bosco Tech and Notre Dame are withdrawing from the league next season. Previously, two rounds of league play were conducted in each sport. Next season, Bosco Tech will join the Camino Real League and Notre Dame will join the new San Fernando Valley League.

The new alignment, proposed by league athletic directors last week, was unanimously approved by a 5-0 vote of Del Rey principals in a meeting Monday at Loyola High. In major sports, the Del Rey League next season will comprise Crespi, Alemany, St. John Bosco, Loyola and St. Francis.

Cross-country, football, track and swimming will remain one-round sports; soccer, water polo, basketball, golf and volleyball again will conduct two rounds.
