Rotimi Alakija, a sophomore forward for the Indiana State basketball team, died shortly after collapsing during practice. The cause of death for the 21-year-old Nigerian national was not immediately known. Vigo County Coroner David Ferguson said an autopsy was to be scheduled at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Alakija was admitted to the emergency room at Union Hospital in Terre Haute around 4:15 p.m. The time of death was 5:08 p.m., according to hospital records. Basketball Coach Ron Greene was trying to contact the player’s mother and grandmother, his legal guardians, in Nigeria, and he could not be reached immediately for comment.
