USD Starts Out 0-13, Shoots 21%, Falls to Santa Clara, 56-40

The University of San Diego basketball team went almost eight minutes before scoring Friday night and never completely recovered in a 56-40 loss at Santa Clara.

USD fell to 10-14, 2-9 in the West Coast Athletic Conference. Santa Clara improved to 16-8, 7-4.

The Toreros opened the game shooting 0 for 13 before Marty Munn scored their first basket 7:56 into the game. They shot 16% the first half and trailed at the intermission, 25-16.

USD pulled to within seven early in the second half but was unable to maintain the rally and trailed by more than 10 points through most of the half. The Toreros shot 21% for the game.

Efrem Leonard scored nine points for USD.
