Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico, the World Boxing Assn. lightweight champion, will fight Nicky Perez in a non-title bout March 5 in Tijuana.
Chavez said his plan to fight Puerto Rico’s Juan LaPorte fell through.
Chavez said the Perez fight will be a warmup for his first defense of his lightweight title, scheduled April 16 in Las Vegas against Rodolfo Aguilar of Panama.
