Favored San Dieguito High School was frustrated for much of its first-round 3-A San Diego Section girls’ match against visiting Serra Tuesday.

“We controlled most of the game but seemed to miss, and their goalie played well,” said Dave Emmerson, the San Dieguito coach.

But Suzannah Thomas scored her 16th goal of the year for a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes left, and Kathy Conklin added a penalty-kick goal 10 minutes later, sending San Dieguito into the second round with a 3-1 victory.
