On to Royalty Scores 3-Length Victory in Bonnie Miss Stakes at Gulfstream

On to Royalty, putting away the other speed horse, Lost Kitty, during the run down the backstretch, justified her 19-10 favoritism with a three-length victory Wednesday in the $200,000 Bonnie Miss Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Gulfstream Park.

Tomorrow’s Child, an invader from Santa Anita, broke quickly from the outside post in a 12-horse field and finished second, 2 lengths ahead of Make Change, a 44-1 shot who had a nose on Lost Kitty at the wire.

On to Royalty, timed in 1:45 3/5 for 1 1/16 miles, paid $5.80 in winning her fifth race in six starts, all but one of them for jockey Craig Perret.

Jet Fire, a 90-1 shot, sat down in her stall in the gate just before the start, and Lost Kitty, four stalls away, appeared to be bothered by the incident, breaking awkwardly and almost unseating her jockey, Jose Santos.

Lost Kitty, off at 3-1 in her first start since running fourth in the Hollywood Starlet three months ago, still broke on top and led for half a mile before On to Royalty moved past her. Tomorrow’s Child, in third place most of the way, had a clear run at On to Royalty in the stretch but couldn’t make up the ground.

Ben Perkins Jr., On to Royalty’s trainer, said that she would be shipped to Kentucky, with her goal the Kentucky Oaks May 6 at Churchill Downs.
