Southland Swept by Strong Winds
The National Weather Service issued a high-wind warning Wednesday for Southern California.
A strong spring storm was developing over the Rockies, and a large area of high pressure was building east across Washington and Oregon into Northern California. The combination of colder air and strong north winds moving south between the two weather systems was generating Santa Ana wind gusts of 45 to 50 m.p.h. in the Tehachapis north of Los Angeles, as well as parts of the San Fernando Valley.
The same gusty wind pattern will spread south over much of the Southland overnight and continue today, forecasters said.
