PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Redondo, San Pedro in Tourney Finals

Redondo and San Pedro overcame the wind and scrappy opponents Thursday to reach the two finals of the Westside Baseball Tournament.

Scott Davison homered, tripled and had three RBI to lead Redondo over host Monroe, 10-8, while Rodney Garcia and Ben Mandac combined on a three-hitter to help San Pedro defeat visiting Camarillo, 5-2, in the semifinals.

The two tournament titles will be decided in a double-header Saturday at Redondo. San Pedro (4-0) meets Oxnard in the Red Division final at 3:30 p.m., followed by Redondo (4-0) taking on Alemany in the Blue Division final at 7.

Redondo opened a 9-0 lead after three innings but, with a strong wind making fielding treacherous, Monroe rallied and trailed 10-8 with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth.

Right-handed reliever Nate Perry struck out the batter to end the threat and retired Monroe in the seventh to earn a save.

Davison gave Redondo an early lead with a two-run homer in the first. The Sea Hawks added a run in the second on a homer by winning pitcher Henry Schelb and scored six times in the third, highlighted by RBI triples by Davison and Jaysen Surber. Davison, Schelb and Dane McKay were each 3 for 4.

At San Pedro, Garcia gave up one hit in five innings to earn his second win of the season. The senior right-hander was pulled after walking four straight batters in the fifth, when Camarillo scored both of its runs.

Mandac, a senior left-hander, shut out Camarillo the rest of the way to pick up a save.

Garcia gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead with an RBI triple in the first inning, and Greg Ylauan made it 3-0 with a two-run single in the second. San Pedro finished with four hits.

Palisades 11, St. Bernard 9--In a game featuring nine home runs, Kyle McElroy’s third-inning grand slam proved the biggest blow as the visiting Dolphins won a consolation-round game in the Westside Tournament.
