Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Transient to Be Quizzed in Businessman Slaying

City police detectives have left for Colorado to question a man arrested driving the stolen van of an Anaheim businessman who was shot to death last weekend.

The man, identified as Philip Graham Dugger, 29, a transient, was stopped by sheriff’s deputies Thursday night in Burlington, Colo., while driving a van registered to Charles Schulte, 62, of Anaheim, Sgt. Gordon Blair said.

Schulte was shot several times in the upper body with a small-caliber gun. No motive has been determined for the killing.

His body was found about 1:05 p.m. Sunday in an alley next to his costume shop, Olympic Productions at 1447 S. State College Blvd.

Dugger was arrested Thursday night while driving Schulte’s 1984 blue Volkswagen van in Burlington, about 125 miles east of Denver.

Kit Carson County sheriff’s officials could not be reached for comment.

The van was listed as stolen by Anaheim police when it was discovered missing after the slaying, Blair said.

“Our detectives are traveling to Colorado based on evidence resulting from a joint investigation with Burlington, Colo., sheriff’s and Anaheim police. A warrant was issued on Dugger for his arrest,” Blair said.

Anaheim detectives will seek to arrest the suspect on an Orange County warrant and have him extradited to Orange County, Blair said.
