GRAMMY WHAMMY: OK, you’ve probably already forgotten who won the Grammys here. But if you’re backstage at Radio City Music Hall, cross-examining the popsters polite enough to stop by to meet the press, you’d be surprised how many news tidbits come your way. For example, the members of Run-D.M.C. revealed that they’d settled their lawsuit with Profile Records, the rap stars’ longtime label. In fact, group spokesman Run (Joseph Simmons) said the band has agreed to record 10 more albums for Profile, three more than it originally owed them. (In turn, Profile has upped the group’s royalty rate.) Run also said that the group’s long-awaited movie, “Tougher Than Leather,” will “definitely” be out this summer, accompanied by an album of the same name, “though it’s not a sound track, it’s just our new album,” he added. . . .

Rap rivals the Fat Boys also came by, making their presence known by shouting: “We’re here. Stop what you’re doing back there!” The hefty rap threesome regaled reporters with updates on their favorite food (“Spaghetti-O’s and a lot of girls”), a new movie project (“It’s gonna be a horror film called ‘Fat Wolf’ ”) and favorite rappers, Salt-N-Pepa (“We like ‘em because they’re three girls”). Wearing a wild assortment of brand-name jackets, oversized jewelry and gold medallions in the shape of a Cadillac hood ornament, the group also claimed they were planning a tour of the Soviet Union. Darren (Beat Box) Robinson, the fattest Fat Boy, explained: “We’re going to, uh, what do they call it . . . yeah--Red Square. We’re gonna teach those Russian kids how to rap.” (Beat Box then launched into a lengthy impersonation of a teen-age Russian rapper.) When asked by an older journalist how the band would differentiate their style of rap from its rivals, Beat-Box swung his huge hips with delight, boasting, “We better!” . . . Dumbest media query of the night went to a radio reporter who asked Mercer Ellington, winner of best jazz instrumental big-band performance: “Any relation to the Duke?”
