Share

Mike Suarez’s three-run homer in the fifth inning gave Westlake a 5-3 win over Ventura and a split of a nonleague doubleheader at Westlake. Westlake dropped the opener, 12-10.

The Warriors improved to 4-4 behind a four-hitter by Mike Eby. Derek Tamburro was 2 for 3 in the second game, but his grand slam in the first went for naught as three Warrior pitchers couldn’t hold Ventura.

Craig Cooper and Mike Lieberthal each hit a two-run homer for Westlake in the first game.

Westlake’s John Stephens had two hits in the first game and another in the second, when he also had six assists from third base. Chuck Foster had two of the Warriors’ 12 first-game hits.
