High School Baseball : Matkin, Burrill Keep Hart Perfect

Chris Matkin pitched a three-hitter and Casey Burrill hit his fourth home run to lead Hart to a 5-2 Foothill League victory Tuesday at Alhambra.

Matkin (3-0), a senior right-hander, struck out three and walked one as the Indians improved to 8-0, 2-0 in league play. Burrill hit a solo home run in the fourth and drove in the Indians’ second run in a three-run first. The home run was Burrill’s fourth in four games.

Saugus 11, Quartz Hill 1--Saugus exploded for 11 runs over the final four innings for its sixth consecutive win in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill. Darrell Davis had four hits, scored two runs, drove in two runs, and stole four bases for the Centurions (6-2, 2-0).

Burroughs 2, San Gabriel 0--Chris Westbury pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 in a complete-game win in the Foothill League game.

St. John Bosco 8, Crespi 6--St. John Bosco scored three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings in the Del Rey League game. Crespi starter Chad Nichols allowed only two hits and struck out six heading into the fifth, but gave up three runs in the inning for the loss.

St. Genevieve 10, La Salle 2--Alfonso Gutierrez knocked in two runs with a pair of doubles and a single for St. Genevieve in the Santa Fe League game. Pitcher Mike Rohrbough, who went the distance for the win, hit a three-run home run in the third.

Chaminade 3, Salesian 0--Rob Rosemont pitched a shutout in the Santa Fe League game at Chaminade. Rosemont struck out nine and allowed just six hits.

Rio Mesa 6, Buena 6--In a game called because of darkness, Dimitri Young of Rio Mesa was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a home run. Young has 8 extra-base hits and 14 RBIs in Rio Mesa’s first 7 games.

Nordhoff 8, Agoura 5--Scott Heflin hit a three-run homer and knocked in four runs for Agoura in the Frontier League game. Trailing, 5-4, Nordhoff scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Village Christian 7, Pioneer Baptist 0--Chris Dyck hurled a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out 11.

Buckley 6, Oakwood 5--John Nadolenco scored in the bottom of the seventh on a line drive off Oakwood pitcher Marc Williams.

Faith Baptist 6, Oak Park 6--T. J. Humphryes had three hits and two RBIs for Oak Park (3-1-2) and John Dailey had two doubles and an RBI in a game postponed because of darkness.

Queen of Angels 2, Pacific Christian 1--The Angels’ Peter Marin singled in the winning run with one out in the seventh.

Simi Lutheran 7, Viewpoint 3--Bill Mueller struck out 11 and walked two for Simi Lutheran in a Heritage League game.

Bell-Jeff 6, Harvard 5--Chris Carnes bunted home the winning run in the seventh in the Santa Fe League game at Bell-Jeff.
