Hooper Honored as Top Rookie Racer
Scott Hooper, a senior at Taft High, has been named 1987 Rookie of the Year by the Top Gas West Drag Racing Assn.
Hooper, 17, finished second to Bill Ogle of Whittier for the overall points title.
He won the first race of the 1988 season last weekend at Phoenix Raceway Park in Arizona and set track records for elapsed time (7.21) and speed (185.72 m.p.h.).
