Tulsa Files Suit Against Former Football Coach Henshaw
The University of Tulsa Wednesday filed a $65,000 breach of contract suit against former football Coach George Henshaw, who resigned to become a Denver Broncos assistant.
Tulsa officials denied requests by Bronco Coach Dan Reeves for permission to negotiate with Henshaw. Henshaw, whose team was 3-8, was the school’s third coach in three years.
Henshaw resigned March 8, with four years left on a five-year contract, and three days later became the Broncos’ offensive line coach, replacing Alex Gibbs, who left to join the Raiders.
University officials demanded $65,000 when Henshaw resigned, but Henshaw “failed and refused, and continues to fail and refuse to pay the sum due and owing to the university,” according to the suit.
Henshaw replaced Don Morton, who resigned to become coach at Wisconsin. The university received a settlement when Morton resigned, believed to be $25,000, according to the Tulsa World. Morton replaced John Cooper, who resigned to accept the coaching job at Arizona State.
