A fire that investigators believe was deliberately set destroyed a 73-year-old avocado packing plant in La Habra, shooting flames 150 feet into the air and causing an estimated $3 million damage. More than 80 firefighters from Orange and Los Angeles counties, unable to save the plant, concentrated on preventing the flames from spreading to nearby homes. No injuries were reported. La Habra Fire Chief Ben Wilkins said arson investigators had found “definite evidence” that the fire had been set. He said police and firefighters had been called to the plant two days earlier after two pallets on the loading dock were set afire.
